Woodhouse hit five 180's and a 97.8 average; as he moves through to the third round to continue his dream debut at the Alexandra Palace.
Woodhouse produced a clinical opening stanza taking it 3-1; as Smith looked a bit flat in the early going. The Bewdley ace continued to produce that going 2-0 up in the second set; having won five of the first six legs.
Smith finally stopped the rot but only after Woodhouse had missed darts for a whitewash set; but he finally got through the second set to go one away from an unlikely victory at the Alexandra Palace.
Smith claimed an early break but only after Woodhouse fluffed his lines. He followed that up with a hold of throw to ask the question of 'Woody'.
He missed multiple chances to break again though; Woodhouse gained a small footing in the set, this was turned into a big footing. He missed multiple match darts and this allowed Smith to pile in and claim the set.
He started the next set by smashing in an 82 checkout to seriously ask questions of Woodhouse. He answered them of sorts holding his throw.
Woodhouse looked to potentially break the heart of Smith; but he showed resilience hitting a 78 checkout and letting out a roar.
He sent it all the way to a decider as it was either Woodhouse winning or Smith taking it all the way. It was the unseeded player who produced another exceptional display; to knock out last year's finalist.
