Cameron Menzies and Fallon Sherrock have both qualified for the upcoming World Darts Championship. A meeting in the first round is therefore an immediate possibility for the famous darts couple. And Vincent van der Voort would like that.
Menzies, who recently won his first PDC rankings title, qualified through the Pro Tour Order of Merit, Sherrock on the other hand forced her place through the PDC Women's Series. "I would think it would be really wonderful if boyfriend and girlfriend had to face each other at the World Championship" said Vincent van der Voort (who himself still hopes to qualify through the qualifying tournament at the end of this month) in the podcast 'Darts Draait Door'.
"And not in the second round only, but right in the first round. Then you also have that prior to that spicy encounter you live in the same house with each other for two and a half weeks while you know you have to compete against each other. That's still separate and awkward all the same. But I would find that the most fun scenario."
Extra tension
Van der Voort is therefore looking forward to the potential encounter between the two. "There will always be extra tension on a match like this, because you have to play the person who has been with you all day. Then you hope for a loss for the other person, but you can get it yourself in this situation."
Menzies is also known as a very extroverted player. "With him it's never boring, there's always something happening. She is the calming factor in their relationship, I think so."
