Gerwyn Price hasn't cut the happiest of figures over the last year, causing some doubt over the future of the Welshman's darting career. After failing to qualify for the upcoming Grand Slam of Darts though, Price is having an enforced break from darts at the moment and that has seemingly led to something of an epiphany.
It was only in August that Price told Online Darts: "I'm sort of in the mindset now that, I'll turn up and play in whatever events I'm in and if I'm not in them, I don't really care," and "If I fall outside the top 64 and finish darts tomorrow, I really don't care." But having now been forced to miss the tournament in which he has had most success in his darting career, lifting the Grand Slam of Darts title three times, Price has re-found his love of the game.
"When the last 10 years have been constant travelling, darts or downtime with the family, you lose touch with everything else going on around you without even knowing it," the former world champion and world number one writes in a post on his official Instagram story. "Now, when there's no darts, it's like trying to fill a void."
"I finally realise my life is darts and without it I don't know what to do with myself," Price continues, hinting that upon his return we could see a refreshed and reinvigorated player. "Fortunately, or unfortunately for some, you're all stuck with me! Gwaaaaan."
The next time Price will be back in action on the big stage is set to be the upcoming Players Championship Finals in Minehead. In the opening round there, the Welshman faces off against French, former Lakeside finalist, Thibault Tricole. After that event, it will be all eyes on the Ally Pally and Price's quest for a second world title.
