Gerwyn Price ended his Premier League season with a whimper on Thursday night. In the final round of the league phase in Sheffield, 'The Iceman' lost 6-4 to reigning world champion Luke Humphries in the quarter-finals.
As a result, Price had to conclude his sixth participation in the
Premier League Darts without adding a weekly title to his name. In the last six weeks of play, 'The Iceman' managed to record only the one victory. In 16 rounds of play, the former rugby player also managed to reach a weekly final just twice, as a weekly title remained out of reach.
With only 12 points after 16 rounds of play, Price finished in seventh place, leaving only Peter Wright below him. 'The Iceman' confessed on Thursday night via his official Instagram account, that he took part in this edition of Premier League Darts with little pleasure. ''So happy that is done and dusted,'' the Welshman began his story. ''End of the Premier League for me. Would love to say I've enjoyed it but I'd be lying."
Price now wants to shift his focus to tournaments where prize money for the world rankings can be earned. The Premier League Darts is now considered a non-ranking tournament. ''Looking forward to putting my full attention on ranked events from now on,'' Price said.
So far in his career Price has had a mixed relationship with the Premier League. Only in 2023 has "The Iceman" manage to qualify for the playoffs. On that occasion he lost in the final to an unstoppable Michael van Gerwen.
