Peter Wright produced an incredible display with a 105.46 average as he breezed past Joe Cullen 11-5 into the
World Matchplay Quarter-Finals.
He spoke afterwards about Cullen's issues away from the oche and how that can affect a player on stage.
"It wasn't that easy because it's very hard trying to play in that heat on the stage and obviously Joe (Cullen) is an awesome player, he's proved that in the last year the way he sits in the ProTour rankings. He's beating all the big names as well but I've heard he's got some sort of problems away from the darts but it's nothing to do with me, it's nothing to do with anyone else but obviously if you've got those sorts of things in the back of your head, it doesn't help," said Wright post match.
Rankings thoughts
He cast his eye on the players left in the tournament with special praise given to Gerwyn Price and also Dimitri van den Bergh.
"They're all fantastic players left in the tournament obviously and I've opened my big mouth lots of times but I'm still in it. Darts is not a talking tournament, if it was a talking tournament, I'd win it."
"I watched all the games last night. Obviously Gezzy played fantastic, showing everyone why he's number one and he must be really annoyed not being in the Premier League. He went out and proved why he's Number One in the world. Then Dimi and Chizzy played wow, it made that game look mediocre but that's just the way I looked at it."
He also spoke about whether or not he has an eye on Gerwyn Price's number one spot and that doesn't come to mind for 'Snakebite' who believes he's too old to chase it.
"I'm not bothered about that. If I get there, I get there. Before I retire, if I do which I will. If I was younger yeah. Gezzy's got the dedication, he's done fantastic. I wish I was his age but I'm getting old, I don't need to play silly games with Gezzy."
