Wright completes World Matchplay Quarter-Final line-up with superb display to ease past Cullen

Peter Wright has completed the Quarter-Final line-up at the 2021 World Matchplay where he will face off against Michael Smith after a superb display to see off Joe Cullen 11-5.

Wright sent a message to the field with this display which saw 'Snakebite' average 105.5 with seven 180's and 52% on the doubles.

Before the tournament, he predicted he'd win both the World Matchplay and World Championship, can he get one step closer to that proclamation coming true?

Wright went 3-0 up but Cullen levelled up at 3-3 to keep it interesting early on after the interval.

But as 'Snakebite' stopped the rot, he got stronger and hit a 103 checkout followed by a 13 darter to go 6-3 clear.

The tie was soon slipping away from Cullen as he missed double 16 for a 68 finish and Wright punished with an 85 checkout to head into a four leg cushion 7-3 at the second break.

A third 180 and double 16 saw him edge closer to the finishing line at 8-3 up. Cullen stopped the rot with a 68 finish to make it 8-4.

But it was only a rot stopper as Wright's average went to 104 and he went one away from the Quarter-Finals before completing the feat 11-5.
