Now back to World Number One,
Peter Wright began the final
European Tour of the season with victory seeing off home hope, Craig Galliano at the
Gibraltar Darts Trophy in a 6-2 win.
Wright hit a 96 average, a high checkout of 116 and 42.9% on the doubles as he reeled off five consecutive legs and showed his class against the World Cup star.
Galliano would have dared to dream at 2-1 up with his celebration for the 120 checkout saying it all but after breaking, he failed to consolidate and Wright found his rhythm.
Breaking back, he repeated the feat at 4-2 with a 116 checkout before holding on double nine and despite initially missing match darts, he finally got over the line on double five.
While for
Jonny Clayton, it was similarly emphatic as 'The Ferret' sealed a 6-2 win over Stephen Bunting with a 93.6 average, two 180's, a high checkout of 122 and 54.5% on the doubles.
This as Bunting could not reproduce his brilliance from yesterday in taking down Daryl Gurney. The former now sets up an intriguing tie with Josh Rock in the Last 16 which is bound to be one of the ties of the round.
