Peter Wright claimed the PDC World Darts Championship and his daughter Naomi now wants it to be pride of place when she gets married.
“We had a discussion because the woman puts in all the work — so why is the father the one who walks the daughter down?" he said to Sun Sport.
“It’s the woman that does 90 per cent of looking after the child, giving birth and going through all the pain.
“Why can’t the mum walk her daughter down the aisle as well?
“I’ll have my kilt on. I hope it isn’t snowing. I’ll be nervous on the day.”
His wife Jo added: “My daughter has demanded it — she wants the trophy on the top table. She now wants to use the day to celebrate his world title and invite all his mates along."
“It’s in a converted barn. It’s local. I don’t know if we will do his hair on the day.”
No retirement plans
'Snakebite' reiterated his plan to play on for years to come with the 51-year-old coming into his own in recent years after periods in the darting doldrums.
"The fans like me because I wear crazy outfits and have crazy hair," Wright added.
“But I think I’m getting booed now because I’m becoming an old stager and winning stuff. Everyone likes the underdog. The amount of sports I watch, I cheer on the underdog because you want them to win against the top players.
“There are no retirement plans. Jo won’t let me!
“While I can upset the class of players there is around, I’ll carry on playing.
“I can win another three world titles before I am too old — and get to five in total. Though by then I might have to get a Zimmer frame to jump across the stage.”
Next goal
But for Wright, his next goal is the World Number One and the Premer League and in the all-time GOAT debate, Wright puts himself right up there.
“Being No 1 is on my mind. That is realistic now. I’m that close to Gezzy. I will also focus on the Premier League and see what happens there.
“Would I have been this good if Phil Taylor was still around? I don’t know.
“Or if Michael van Gerwen was on the form that we all know him for?
“I’d put myself maybe in the top five. But nowhere near as good as MVG and Phil Taylor.
