Wright on Van Gerwen's positive test after Heta comeback win: "It wasn't a shock in my eyes anyway"

Peter Wright came from 2-0 down to reel off four sets in a row to down Damon Heta all brought on by a change in darts as usual for the former World Champion.

Wright spoke after keeping his World Darts Championship hopes alive and is keeping faith with his darts admitting a few tweaks are needed.

"I got there in the end, obviously your plan is to try and win 4-0 and get off the stage as quick as possible but you can't do that against Damon. I tried to use darts I got on the 22nd December, practice wise they've been lovely. I love the angle they go in. I've just got to tweak the flights and steams maybe," said Wright post match.

Whitlock darts

A lot has been said about similarities between Wright's new dart and that of Simon Whitlock and he revealed that he had conversations with Whitlock about how he would fare using a similar barrel.

"I've always loved Simon's dart and even Simon says if you use my darts, I think you'd be awesome. I've got a few little things to tweak with them, it's a lovely dart, has lovely balance but it didn't quite work today."

Searle clash

Next up is Ryan Searle and he is looking forward to another battle with 'Heavy Metal' in the Last 16.

"I love Ryan, he's a fantastic player. He's great for darts, he's nice and quick, scores lots of 180's. Doesn't think about anything, just does his business. I'm looking forward to it."

MVG positive not a shock

One of his main rivals Michael van Gerwen tested positive for Covid-19 and for Wright, he said it wasn't too much of a shock.

"Michael was going to be with Vincent over Christmas and practicing together. It wasn't a shock in my eyes anyway."
