The second semi-final is confirmed at the New South Wales Darts Masters. After Damon Heta confirmed his tie with Dimitri van den Bergh, it will be Peter Wright facing off against Rob Cross later on.
Wright faced Michael Smith in the main blockbuster tie, but it flattered to deceive with 'Snakebite' benefitting from a wasteful effort from 'Bully Boy' to win 6-4.
Wright spoke of his dismay at his display yesterday and was shaking his head throughout after only averaging 88.69 with only marginally better doubling statistics at 6/25 (24%) compared to 3/15 (20%) from 'Bully Boy' in a missed opportunity from the World Number One.
But it is Wright who benefits and could yet get a confidence-boosting title to end the World Series of Darts campaign. Next up though will be a player who has already tasted success during this doubleheader.
That being Rob Cross who was a surprise winner last week in Hamilton, but he will look to add a third World Series title Down Under this afternoon.
He saw off Danny Noppert who was on his full World Series debut these past two weeks as the Dutch representative with Michael van Gerwen missing.
But he will not reach a semi-final this time around despite averaging 100 in defeat as 'Voltage' defied 'The Freeze' in a 6-4 win with a 95.3 average and extended his winning run to six matches in a row on the World Series.
It could've gone to a decider though with Cross handing multiple darts to Noppert to force it to go the distance, but the Dutchman didn't take it and Cross finally hit double four in a tie which saw Cross excel on the 140's over the 180's with 12 in all.
Given his current form though, he will hope for a similar Wright as the one who narrowly saw off Smith with the opportunity of back-to-back rearing its head.
