Wright sets sights on World Number One spot: "I could be number one before the World Championship"

Peter Wright indicated during the World Matchplay that his focus was no longer on the World Number One spot in the PDC Order of Merit, but after winning the title in Blackpool, that has changed.

He has set himself the target of going into the World Championship as World Number One where he will have to defend his victory from two years ago.

He is currently second in the PDC Order of Merit trailing £181,750 to World Number One, Gerwyn Price but believes that gap can be closed.

"Becoming world number one would be great, and I think I could be," said Wright.

"If I win the World Grand Prix and Grand Slam of Darts, and retain my European Championship title, I could be number one in the world before the World Championship.

"Obviously I will then have to defend £500,000 at the World Championship, but I think I can win that as well."
