Wright storms past Searle to complete PDC World Darts Championship Quarter-Final line-up

Peter Wright is the final player through to the Quarter-Finals of the PDC World Darts Championship after seeing off Ryan Searle in a 4-1 sets win.

Wright will face Callan Rydz on New Years Day after seeing off 'Heavy Metal' with a 99 average and seven 180's against a player who concludes a superb year on the tour.

Wright only averaged 89 in the opening set but Searle was punished for a poor start as ‘Snakebite’ eased to the first set. This continued as a 111 checkout saw Wright surge into a 2-0 lead and one away from a two sets lead.

Searle hit his first 180 to leave 84 on the Wright throw which he pinned on the bull as he looked to make it parity. An 80 checkout saw Searle level up but Wright was throwing for the set.

A 51 checkout saw Wright claim it to go 2-0 up. He couldn’t take out 106 to begin the next set but Searle spurned three at 16. Only for Wright to gift him another opportunity after missing 68.

He finally hit double four for the lead in a pivotal set. An 80 checkout saw him double his lead and he was throwing for a 2-1 sets deficit.

Wright broke back on double 18 and missed 116 for a hold only for Searle to return for a 151 for the set.

To begin the next set, Wright took the lead and a poor start from Searle saw ‘Snakebite’ hit a 180 in reply. He broke on double four and sealed the set on double two.

Wright went five darts into a nine-darter but missed 56 for a break and Searle hit a 60 checkout for a 1-0 lead. A 67 checkout saw Wright tie it up which he follow up with 132 to go one away.

He sealed it on double 18 for the win to continue his charge for a second World title.
