Luke Littler’s ‘big fish’ celebration has quickly become one of the most recognisable sights in darts, but Wayne Mardle reckons the world champion might need to tweak his technique.
Speaking live on Sky Sports after another entertaining Premier League Darts night in Dublin, Mardle jokingly pointed out that Littler has been reeling the wrong way when mimicking the catch.
“You need to reel it in,” Mardle said with a smile. “The fish is already out there, stop reeling it out pal.”
The light-hearted moment came after Littler once again brought the celebration out during a dramatic Night Seven that saw him fight back from 5-0 down to beat Gerwyn Price and survive multiple match darts from the Welshman to eventually win the final.

A celebration catching on across the Premier League

What started as Littler’s own signature moment is already spreading across the stage. During his semi-final epic against Michael van Gerwen earlier in the night, even the mighty Dutchman got in on the act after landing a 170 checkout, reeling in an imaginary fish of his own in a playful nod to his opponent.
It was a moment that drew a big reaction from the Dublin crowd and Littler himself, showing just how quickly the celebration has become part of the Premier League show.
Mardle also leaned into the humour when the moment was replayed, adding: “You can’t argue with kids.”

Backed up by big performances

The celebration might grab attention, but Littler’s performances continue to do the real talking.
The world champion saw off Stephen Bunting in the quarter-finals before edging past Van Gerwen in a deciding-leg semi-final packed with big finishes. He then completed a remarkable comeback against Price in the final, turning a 5-0 deficit into a 6-5 victory to claim the nightly win in Dublin.
The Nuke now sits second in the table after seven nights, looking good for qualification to the playoffs at the end of the season.
