Michael van Gerwen has claimed victory at the NZ Darts Masters for his second consecutive World Series title after beating Raymond van Barneveld in the final.

Van Gerwen smashed the Dutch legend in an 8-1 demolition to cement his status as being back towards his best. Kyle Anderson was the main scare he got in this tournament but he bounced back on the second day to smash his way to the title.

Mighty Mike started off brilliantly pouncing on a missed opportunity from Barney to take the lead and from there he strengthened with every leg.

This saw him surge into a 4-0 lead with Van Barneveld being made to pay for poor finishing on his part. ‘Barney’ finally claim a leg but it was almost little too late for him with him going into the interval 5-1 behind having hit only 1/6 of his doubles.

When they returned, Van Barneveld pressurised with a 180 but MVG finished to go 6-1 ahead. From there MVG returned to break throw and go within one leg and he claimed the title as a result completing a rout.
