Andy Baetens impresses in victory at Lakeside as Dennis Nilsson defies James Hurrell in last leg decider

Andy Baetens easily qualified for the quarterfinals at Lakeside. The number one seed booked a resounding victory over Sebastian Bialecki in the second round of the WDF World Championship.

With an average of 94.82, the Belgian currently recorded the highest average of the tournament. Thanks to two 13-darters, 'The Beast' took the first set 3-2, before Baetens took the second set 3-1.

Baetens then gained a 2-0 lead in the third set via a 15-darter and a 47 check-out. Bialecki floundered for a while by making it 2-2 in the third set. Baetens threw scores of 135 and 174 in the fifth leg before grabbing victory with a 13-darter. Baetens will face Gary Stone, seeded 16th in Frimley Green, in the quarterfinals.

The final match of the evening was between James Hurrell and Dennis Nilsson. After a 2-1 lead for Nilsson, the game still seemed to turn in Hurrell's favor. The Englishman won set four 3-1 and then took a 2-0 lead in the final set. However, Nilsson returned to 2-2 and after surviving two match darts in the fifth leg, the Swede finished it off decisively via double 8.
