Beau Greaves qualified for the second round at Lakeside with great ease. Against Lorraine Hyde, the top favourite in the ladies only conceded one leg in the entire match.
The 19-year-old Englishwoman immediately distanced herself from her opponent in the first set. An 84 finish and a 17-darter gave Greaves an early 2-0 lead. Leg three went to Hyde, before Greaves took the set with a 16-darter. A 60 check-out gave 'Beau 'n' Arrow' an immediate lead in the second set. Greaves then finished nicely with a 68 check-out and a 16-darter for the match. Greaves will take on Paula Murphy, who was responsible for Anca Zijlstra's elimination, in the last eight.
The match between Jonny Tata and Barry Copeland was a lot more exciting, although it did not look that way after two sets. Those were both won by Tata. However, the New Zealander then saw his opponent from Northern Ireland come back to 2-2 in sets. With a beautiful 102 finish, Tata then managed to decide the match in the fifth set.
