Archie Self has crowned himself winner of the boys' tournament at the WDF World Championship in Frimley Green. In an all-English affair, he outlasted compatriot Jenson Walker 3-2 in sets.
As a result, Self is the first English youth world champion at the WDF World Championship. The past two editions were won by Dutch talents. In 2022 Bradly Roes took the title and in 2023 the tournament was won by Bradley van der Velden.
The first set went quite convincingly to Walker, who threw a 15-darter and a 17-darter to win the set 3-1. A 17-darter also gave him the lead in set two, but Self then won three legs in a row to take the set win.
After two legs in the third set, the score was 1-1. Walker then missed quite a few doubles in the third and fourth leg, while Self punished these misses hard by throwing out 108 and 60. As a result this set went 3-1 to Self.
The first four legs of the fourth set went with the darts, putting Self on match point. Walker was allowed to start the fifth leg, however, and with a brilliant 131 finish he forced a final set.
Self opened the fifth set by keeping his own leg in seventeen darts. Self then threw out 103 for a break. Walker then missed two chances to stay in the match, before Self took the world title with an 18-darter.
