Many were surprised that Mitchell Lawrie wasn't in the men's field for the World Masters such has been the rise of the 14-year-old Scot who continues to show why he could yet be the next darting star akin to Luke Littler after winning the boys Youth title this weekend in Budapest.
It was Scottish dominance overall as four semi-finalists and three came from Scotland showing that aside from Gary Anderson, Peter Wright and Cameron Menzies, there is scope for more top talent coming through.
'Wee Sox' as he is known produced finishes of 70, 81, 90 and 109 to win a high quality final against Craig Devlin with a 95 average. Devlin himself averaged 92 in defeat. But aside from 82 in his semi-final, Lawrie was throwing 90+ averages for fun over the course of the tournament and will make his debut at the Lakeside potentially facing tough American Jason Brandon in one of the top potential ties to watch.
He already will break Littler's record as the youngest debutant in the men's tournament and alongside a current crop that also includes Kaya Baysal who has won five WDF Youth ranking titles and also the Budapest Classic men's event this year 13 days younger than Littler when he won the Irish Open in 2021 shows that darts is very much in good hands when it comes to future stars.
Lawrie already hit the headlines recently for winning the British Open Men's with a 102 average in the final to beat established Scot, Ryan Hogarth 5-0 and it was a weekend to remember for the Scots as Lorraine Hyde also won the women's tournament.

Allen dominates Girls events

The Girls was won by Rebecca Allen. It was an incredible weekend for the Irish talent who won the World Open, World Masters and Lakeside World Championship Girls Qualifier all in one weekend. She becomes the third Irish Girls World Master after taking out 71 to seal a 5-3 win over another touted talent in Ruby Grey.
Paige Pauling who graduates also to the senior women's World Championship like Lawrie at the turn of the month surprisingly lost Thursday in the Last 16. Allen saw off Marie Huber in the first semi-final and won the first two legs against Grey including a 96 finish. The latter fought back with the tie set to parity. But Allen pulled ahead to 4-2, Grey had chances to force a decider but missed two darts at double and Allen took out 71. She joins Robyn Byrne and Katie Sheldon to win the World Masters from Ireland and is one to watch.
