It is a statement double bill for Shane McGuirk and Francois Schweyen as they move through to the Quarter-Finals as the first two at the 2024 WDF World Championship at Lakeside.
McGuirk pinned a third consecutive 90 average as the Irishman breezed past the fourth seed Brandon Weening to take his place in the Last 16.
He started off the match winning the first set in just 47 darts 3-0 against the Australian. Weening got on the board in the second set but McGuirk continued to dominate.
He sealed the second set with an 11-darter as he continued to dominate and headed towards the win. Weening started the final set with a 10-darter with a 180, 141 and 140 followed by double 20. McGuirk levelled up with an 18-darter hitting double 18. Weening levelled up but McGuirk headed towards sealing the win.
While Schweyen defeated Brian Raman in an all-Belgian showdown with a terrific contest between two of the best from nation as he struck a 145 checkout in the deciding set.
He punished set darts from his compatriot Brian Raman to win the opening set pinning double 20 for a 13-darter in the deciding leg. Raman levelled it up going into the break taking his 180 tally to four and sealed the second set with a 72 checkout on double 20.
Raman edged a high quality third set responding to a 152 finish from Schweyen by pinning legs in 14 and 13 darts. The fourth set went with the throw as Schweyen opened with a 100 checkout before winning the deciding leg on double 20 to send it all the way to a fifth and final set.
Schweyen in the final set upped it again hitting a 78 checkout to start the set and break throw. He held throw pinning 80 after hitting a 180 for a 15-darter. A poor leg saw him nearly win the match but Schweyen hit 145 to seal the win.
