From 1-9 January, action returns to Lakeside with the first edition of the WDF World Darts Championship. In the run-up to this tournament, DartsNews will look back at some memorable matches at Frimley Green.
In 1994 and 1995, Steve Beaton was top seed but each time he lost in the first round. In the 1996 edition, he was the sixth seed and saw off Co Stompé 3-0.
After that, he also defeated John Part (3-0), Martin Adams (4-1) and Andy Fordham (4-1). However Burnett failed to extend his reign and Beaton claimed his first and so far only world title with a 6-3 victory.
