Warren finally begins Lakeside campaign with comeback win over Shewan, Raman dispatches Cole in stunning display

Wayne Warren comes from two sets down to see off Lee Shewan and keep his hopes of becoming a two-time World Champion alive and finally begin his 2022 WDF Lakeside World Championship campaign a night after he expected.

Warren was seemingly on the brink and reeled off three sets in a row to shellshock Shewan who was superb up until the finishing line was seemingly in sight.

To begin the tie, Warren missed darts to hold and Shewan broke throw before holding. He missed 148 for the set and Warren pinned double 20 for a hold. Shewan finally won the set on double five to make it 1-0.

An 88 checkout on the bull saw Shewan hold throw. Warren hit a 180 and hit double four to hold throw. Shewan hit a 92 checkout to go one away from a two sets lead.

Another leg another 180 for Warren who hit double 18 to send the set to a decider. A 136 leave for 32 saw Shewan en route to a two sets lead.

Two 180’s were pinned by Warren before holding through but Shewan tied it up. Warren pinned double 10 with a 72 checkout to go one away but Warren hit back with an 81 checkout to seal a set.

Shewan missed a 110 checkout for a hold and Warren sealed a break. An 88 checkout was sealed by Warren to hold.

Shewan hit a 107 checkout to hold and missed double 16 for a 68 checkout allowing Warren to send it all the way.

As Shewan began to fade, Warren went 1-0 up in the decider and he broke to go one away and he sealed it with a 66 checkout.

Prior to that, Brian Raman sealed a stunning display to dispatch Jarred Cole in double quick time and dump out 'The King of the Castle' as the number one seed aims to lead the way at Lakeside.

A 91 checkout saw Raman go 2-0 up with a break with a 79 checkout seeing him take the opening set.

He missed the bull for a 130 checkout to begin the second set and Cole finally got a leg. The standard increased with a 180 from Cole but a 134, 140 and double 14 saw Raman draw level.

He hit an 86 checkout to go 2-1 up and one away from a two sets lead and an 84 checkout on the bull saw him go 2-0 up. He hit a 56 checkout to hold throw, Cole hit a 180 and held throw to make it 1-1 and the Belgian went one away from there before pinning double 16.

While Lorraine Winstanley has experience of reaching the final at Lakeside and will aim to produce the heroics again after seeing off Vicky Pruim. Next up will be one of the main stories of today in Tori Kewish who dumped out Deta Hedman.

Winstanley messed around on the opening finish and Pruim hit a 68 checkout to break. The former laid up 142 to leave 40 with Pruim well back and the Buxton ace bounced back to level up. A 69 checkout saw Winstanley go one away from the opening set.

Pruim hit double 18 to send it to a decider but Winstanley hit double 20 to seal the opening set. They levelled up in the second set. Two 140’s and a 100 saw her down to 121 after nine darts which she pinned and she sealed the deal from there.
