Gerwyn Price is the champion of the
World Series of Darts Finals making it three titles in a row after a double win in the PDC Autumn Series last weekend and cementing his status as the form man in darts.
Price though didn't have it all his own way against
Rob Cross who went 8-4 up but 'The Iceman' battled back to see off 'Voltage' in an 11-9 victory in the first action back in front of fans.
Cross diminished any doubts of him continuing his semi-final
game with a 180 and 144 to clinch the opening leg against the throw. Price replied
with a break of his own to make it 1-1.
From there, he hit a 128 checkout to go 2-1 up and it was advantage
Price at the break with a 3-2 lead. Cross though started to find form as he hit
the front with a break at 4-3 and made it three in a row taking out 77 for a
5-3 lead.
Price stopped the rot at 5-4 but Cross continued to stun as
he went 6-4 up at the next interval. Price was in even more trouble as Cross
broke again to make it 7-4 and followed it up with a 110 checkout.
He returned to the foray though going 8-6 down with a break
back and he held his throw from there to be sat at the break only 8-7 down.
Price had an off leg to restart and Cross piled in a 100
checkout to go 9-7 up and two away. A 56 checkout which saw him hit double 10
last dart in hand made it 9-8 but he needed a break.
He was getting aggravated with poor visits and he piled in a
180 and was first to a finish on the Cross throw. ‘Voltage’ was on 111 but
couldn’t get a shot as Price hit a 74 finish to make it parity.
Off 161, Price hit 43 and Cross hit a 140 to put the
pressure firmly on, Price missed double 20 to hold but it was marred by members
of the crowd whistling. But Cross was on 86 but missed the bull and Price
returned for double 10 to go one away. A 180 began Cross’s throw for him as he
aimed to put ‘Voltage’ under pressure.
A 136 set up left him on 40 with Cross on 111 to hold but the
latter missed double 18 and Price hit double 20 to win.
