16-time world champion Taylor to go under the knife for new hip at the end of June

Darting great, Phil Taylor is set to undergo surgery at the end of June as the 62-year-old requires a new hip.

The former sixteen-time champion of the world, regarded by many as the greatest darts player of all time, was set to take part in an exhibition event in Newcastle on the 29th of June however an official announcement has revealed that due to his surgery, Taylor has regrettably had to withdraw. Luckily for any fans that have plans to be in attendance at the Newcastle Masters X, Taylor has been replaced by none other than 'the Iceman' Gerwyn Price.

"Obviously we are disappointed when a player must withdraw from a commitment but Phil's withdrawal is completely unavoidable and we wish him the best with his surgery," event organiser Lee Bellerby said. "Hopefully this means that we will see The Power up on the oche for the foreseeable future continuing to delight fans all around the world."

"In Gerwyn Price we have added one of the very best in the world right now," Bellerby continues. "And we are sure he will put on a great show for those in attendance."
