The last Quarter-Final is set up at the
World Seniors Darts Championship with
Larry Butler set to face off against Martin Adams after seeing off Keith Deller 3-2.
In a nervy tie-break set after a scrappy tie, it was 'The Bald Eagle' who soared to victory over 'Mr 138' who exits at the first hurdle.
There were three breaks of throw to begin the opening set with Deller popping in an 87 checkout and giving it large as he went 2-1 up and had the chance to claim a 1-0 sets lead. Butler hit a 180 and missed darts to force a decider but Deller couldn’t clean up 56 and the American returned for 2-2.
Butler missed 76 for the set and Deller returned for the same target missing double 20 himself. This saw ‘The Bald Eagle’ bust though allowing Deller back for double five for the opening set.
Again, it was another break. Deller missed the chance to hold and Butler hit double four. He finally held on double 18 to go 2-0 up as he looked to hit straight back.
Deller missed a 118 for the hold and Butler returned but couldn’t hit 64. This allowed the Suffolk ace double 10 which he pinned to hold but Butler took a set back.
On the return from the break, Deller returned to form and took a 2-0 lead with a 72 checkout as he looked to go 2-0 up. He missed 126 for the set and Butler replied on double 10 to hold.
This began the reprieve for Butler who hit double 20 and was soon throwing for a 2-1 sets lead which he claimed. Deller finally broke a potential streak of four consecutive legs to hold.
Butler returned to make it 1-1 and hold. Deller missed multiple chances to hold but was given them by the American. He took the reprieve for double two as he went 2-1 up.
A decider was forced with Deller throwing for another set which he claimed on double 10. Butler looked likely to break to go 2-0 up but Deller hit a 69 checkout to hold and make it 1-1.
Butler missed the chance to hold and the impetus continued to go to Deller as he went one away from the win at 2-1 up.
He was relying on Butler missing the 80 to get a shot at 107 but the American didn’t miss and we went the distance.
He missed multiple darts to hold though only for Deller not to punish and Butler hit double one to go 3-2 up. But Deller’s race was finally ran as Butler hit 52 to claim victory.
