David Cameron is through to the Last 16 at the World Seniors Darts Masters after seeing off Kevin Painter in a 4-3 sets win on the Lakeside stage.
Cameron is no stranger to Frimley Green and is one of the most experienced players on the historic stage after playing in BDO, WDF and now World Seniors in three organisations becoming the first to do so.
'The Artist' led 3-1 in sets and had darts to win in set six but the brutal format was self evident as Cameron sent it all the way where he had the throw first and denied Painter a rematch of the World Seniors Darts Championship semi-final with Robert Thornton.
Cameron was well ahead on his throw as he struck first with a hold of throw in the short format. He missed the bull for a 170 and Painter levelled up at 1-1. But ‘Excalibur’ had the throw to seal the opening set. Only for ‘The Artist’ to produce a masterstroke in the form of a 151.
Painter couldn’t produce and handed Cameron two shots at sealing a break and the Canadian finally took it on double five. Only for ‘The Artist’ to hit back after Cameron spurned multiple opportunities to hold.
Cameron missed 41 to break again and seal the set but Painter missed the shot to seal the set and ‘Excalibur’ hit back.
On return though, Painter began to motor and produced a 32 checkout for a 13 darter after a 180 and a 110 checkout for a 15 darter to seal the set and go 2-1 up.
Cameron spurned a chance to break to begin set four and Painter hit double eight to go 1-0 up and one leg away from a 3-0 sets lead.
A 140 and 138 left 40 for Painter which he pinned first time for a 3-1 sets lead. But Cameron landed a 138 checkout and double five to seal the fifth set and keep it alive at 3-2. He edged the sixth set in a decider to send it all the way though.
Cameron sat on 58 for the match after two 140’s in a row to start Painter’s throw and took aim sealing the tie 4-3.
