The draw has been made for the World Seniors Darts Matchplay, the World Seniors tournament to be held in the English city of York on Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 5. Phil Taylor will play his penultimate tournament as a professional at this tournament. He will only play the World Seniors Darts Masters later this year before the English darts legend bids a final farewell.
The field of participants for the 2024 World Seniors Darts Matchplay consists of sixteen players. In the draw, eight players had protected status. That did not apply to Taylor, who will play against John Henderson in his last participation in this event. It will be only the fourth official encounter between the Englishman and the Scot. Taylor never lost to Henderson in the past.
The winner of the duel between Taylor and Henderson will face Kevin Painter or David Cameron in the second round. The latter was one of two players who managed to qualify for this event through a qualifying tournament. Also on the same side of the schedule is Richie Howson, the number one seed. He will face off with Trina Gulliver, while Neil Duff will battle Chris Mason.
Defending champion Leonard Gates is on the other side of the bracket. The American took the overall victory last year by defeating Jim McEwan 9-6 in the final. Gates begins the 2024 edition with a duel against James Richardson.
Two-time senior world champion Robert Thornton was paired with three-time world champion John Part in the draw. Three-time Lakeside champion Martin Adams will meet Matt Clark, and Paul Hogan will face Lisa Ashton.
