Golden Ticket Winner, Leonard Gates hasn't stopped playing darts all weekend even being involved in the WSDT Open Series after the session yesterday and could go home with the Champion of Champions Trophy shortly.
Gates prevailed over Martin Adams 13-11 and will face off against Richie Howson in the battle of the qualifiers with a first time winner set to be crowned on the WSDT Tour.
Gates held a narrow lead to start the tie at 3-2 but a 10-dart leg started to see ‘Soulger’ streak away as he went into a 7-3 lead.
But Adams started to come back at Gates breaking and holding at 8-6 down in the race to 13. Gates again was under pressure on his own throw and with Adams leaving 48, Gates had to take aim at 133 which he didn’t pin.
This allowed ’Wolfie’ back for 8-7 and was throwing for parity after the interval. Gates missed a dart at 114 for a two leg lead and immediate break back and Adams hit double five for 8-8.
Gates missed darts to hold again and Adams helped himself to another break to go 9-8 up. More double trouble awaited Gates but this time Adams didn’t punish and Gates broke back for 9-9. He held to be the first into double figures.
He missed the bull for a 126 but came back for double eight to make it 11-9. Gates missed 117 to go one away after Adams broke back. But Adams hit the bull for 65 which left him only one dart at double four, this meant Gates returned only to miss more darts.
Parity was sealed as a result at 11-11. But Gates went one away on double four. They both took it up to 12 180’s for the match, Gates spurned match darts off 56 but Adams couldn't send it all the way and the American sealed it on double 10.
