The recently crowned World Senior Darts Champion of Champions, Leonard Gates joins an elite list of Americans to have claimed a major TV tournament and the "Soulger" couldn't be prouder.
"It's great to share the spotlight with Larry Butler and Stacy Bromberg god rest her soul," Gates tells Weekly Dartscast. "It's one of those things that will be talked about positively and negatively throughout the years."
Gates didn't have an easy route to success at the event, beating the sixteen-time world champion Phil Taylor 10-8 in the quarter-final, three-time world champion Martin Adams 13-11 in the semi-final and the recent World Seniors Darts Championship runner-up Richie Howson 13-10 to claim the title.
"If I can keep doing it they are going to be like, this guy, he's got it," Gates continues. "The way I play, the way I feel, I'm really not doing it to be the showboat. I'm doing it to win, to have fun and to keep it going."
