Three matches and three darting legends out so far at the
World Seniors Champion of Champions with The Power cut by The Tower in Blackpool with
Phil Taylor dumped out by the Golden Ticket winner,
Leonard Gates.
Gates made good on his chance in a 10-8 win and will now face the winner of Trina Gulliver or Martin Adams in the semi-final tomorrow afternoon at VIVA!
Taylor was left stranded way back as Gates hit 95 on the bull for a 12-dart leg. Gates had his first miscount from 66 and Taylor got away with it holding throw for 1-1.
An 86 on the bull for Gates saw him go 2-1 up. It was another last dart as Taylor hit 54 for 2-2. Gates missed 93 for a 3-2 lead but Taylor couldn’t pin 116 allowing Gates back for double four.
But Taylor sealed a break to lead for the first time and missed doubles allowed him to hit double 12 and lead 5-3.
Gates missed two darts to break back and make it parity at 5-5 but Taylor could not hold and Gates received another change hitting double four to make it 5-5.
A 97 checkout saw Taylor break back and go 6-5 up and he backed that up to go three away. Gates kept one behind on double 20.
121 saw Gates break back to make it 7-7. A 78 checkout saw Gates take the lead at the next break at 8-7. Taylor returned from the break with a superb last dart double three for 8-8 to hold. A 104 checkout though saw Gates go all the way.
A 180 from Gates left 102 leaving Taylor needing to take out 106 and Gates got a shot at 102 with ‘The Power’ unable to take it out. ‘Soulger’ sealed it using treble 14 and double 20 after initially hitting single 20.
