"I didn't know if this day would actually come" - Emotional Richie Howson triumphs at Champion of Champions

After three lost finals last year, Richie Howson finally snagged his first major title on the World Seniors Darts Tour (WSDT) last Sunday. 'The Owl' defeated Andy Hamilton 13-10 to take the title at the Champion of Champions.

"That's one of the hardest things I think I could do. The emotions are just running so high at the moment," an emotional Howson reflected afterwards. "I didn't know if this day would actually come. As much as I believed it, it's still hard to do it. Andy give me such a great game there but I got over the line and I'm so happy."

Howson's victory also proves that on the Seniors Tour, you don't have to have had a glittering past career to achieve success. "If you want to see 115 averages then obviously, you've got to watch the Premier League. But this is still a really good standard. It's really competitive, there's some great players out there and there's guys that people have never heard of and they're going to be coming through and being on the telly and winning these tournaments," Howson insists.

The next major on the WSDT's calendar is the World Seniors Darts Matchplay, on the weekend of Oct. 4-6. "I think once you've crossed the line and won one, you know you can win one then. It's not you might think you can win one, but you know you can win one. There's no reason why I couldn't win anymore," Howson concludes optimistically.
