Ross Montgomery has convincingly qualified for the second round of the 2025 World Seniors Darts Championship at the Circus Tavern. 'The Boss' eased past Trina Gulliver 3-0 in his opening match and now gets to take on John Part.
Montgomery has played the BDO World Championship thirteen times in the past, but this marks his first outing on TV on the Seniors Tour. "I feel good. I was a bit apprehensive before I started, because I know how well I can play and yeah, it's my debut at the Circus Tavern at 62 years of age," reflected the Scot when speaking to the media post-match. "I played well I think, I know everyone says the same clichés, but I'm happy with that result."
With a 92.93 average, It was a more than solid start to the tournament for Montgomery. "But they don't put averages on trophies," he insists. "But I will take confidence from it onto the next game."
As mentioned, in the next round the three-time former world champion John Part awaits after the Canadian took victory over Jim McEwan in his own first round tie earlier this week. "I've never played John," Montgomery reveals. "I've watched him on TV many, many times but yeah I will focus on tomorrow's game."
Montgomery also spent two years with the PDC after a long career with the BDO in 2022 and 2023. "Lots of people did say to me, you should have done it earlier. Yeah okay, I could have done it earlier. But I didn't, because I had the opportunity for my country and doing what I did, winning what I did," he reflects. "I will not go into the politics of what the PDC do, because the PDC do what the PDC do. That's why they're the monster they are and it's good for the top players who deserve what they get. What they do with the lower ranked players? As I said, I won't make comments. I was there for two years, I saw what was happening. But players who want to go to Q-School, go for it if you feel you're good enough. Because you will learn."
