Phil Taylor recently played his last ever World Championship recently. At the World Seniors Darts Championship, he went down disappointingly in the opening round against German, Manfred Bilderl.
It may have been Taylor's last World Championship, but he is not saying goodbye completely juat yet. After all, 'The Power' is still going to participate in all the major tournaments on the World Seniors Darts Tour (WSDT) this year.
"I'm going to try and enjoy it," Taylor told Ray Stubbs recently. "I'm not going to put any pressure on myself. I'm not going to over try like I did last year, I'm just going to enjoy my last year and I'm really, really looking forward to it."
Taylor quit the
PDC in 2018. "I can't believe it's actually nearly six years since I retired," he laughs. "I was all set to retire at 55 but Barry Hearn convinced me to keep going, so I went until I was 58."
That success and certainly most of his total of 16 world titles Taylor captured at the iconic Circus Tavern in Purfleet. "I love it! I wouldn't say it was my favourite venue in the world, because Blackpool's always my favourite, but I would say it comes in a close second," Taylor says of the Tavern. "This actual building, how can I say it, it financially secured me for the rest of my life."
Taylor will celebrate his 64th birthday later this year. "I've done probably 30 or 40 years of being a semi-professional and a professional. Enough's enough. You've got to call it a day somewhere down the line," he concludes. "I won't stop working. I still want to go out there and meet people and do personal appearances and so forth. But I'm not worried about not being a competitive player."
