John Henderson has been crowned the
World Seniors Darts Championship winner a 5-0 victory over
Colin McGarry in the final on Sunday night at the Circus Tavern.
Despite both players starting somewhat nervously, it was Henderson who got the opening set on the board early. Despite a few missed doubles, the Scot took the first set 3-1. With set 2 going all the way to a deciding leg, Henderson again was the man who prevailed, sealing the set and a 2-0 lead with an impressive 15-dart leg.
For the third straight set, McGarry took the opening leg in set 3 but once again he failed to build on that. Henderson running through the next three legs in 16, 18 and 14 darts respectively to open up a three set advantage.
In set 4, McGarry once again opened the set successfully and moved 1-0 but Henderson reacted strongly to move just one set from the world title with a pair of 14 darters.
Incredibly, the opening leg of the fifth set yet again went to McGarry. With his back against the wall, could he finally make use of it and get a set on the board? Sadly for the Northern Irishman and his legion of fans it wasn't to be. Again, perhaps sensing a modicum of danger, 'Hendo' upped his level to reel off the subsequent three legs, sealing the world title with a stunning 114 checkout.
