Peter Manley is through to a highly anticipated showdown with his great rival, Phil Taylor after seeing off Deta Hedman 3-1 in sets at the World Seniors Darts Championship.
Manley came from a set down to see off Hedman producing five unanswered legs before having some struggles closing it out but he got over the line in the end as he upped his game at the right time. He joins Robert Thornton in the next round.
Hedman missed double 20 for 80 for the opening leg but returned as Manley’s attempt at 81 went wrong and ‘The Heart of Darts’ sealed double 10 for the opening leg hold.
Manley set up double 20 with Hedman not on a finish but the latter left it handy on 44 after Manley missed three darts at double and Hedman took it on double 16 to break and go 2-0 up.
Hedman hit back-to-back 140’s en route and hit a 136 set up shot in case Manley couldn’t pin 80 but he did to finally get on the board.
138 left 76 for Hedman. She gave Manley another chance but pinned double four to seal the opening set.
Manley started with a 160 to leave double 20 in true showmanship style and pinned double 10 to go 1-0 up. He missed double 10 for a 100 checkout but returned for same target to go 2-0 up. ‘One Dart’ sealed the set in a clean sweep from there with a 55 checkout on double 10.
He began the second set with a 180 and 138 to leave 40 which he pinned. Manley was in a fine rhythm as he hit a 117 checkout to go 2-0 up and go one away from a 2-1 sets lead.
A 68 checkout stopped the rot for Hedman as Manley was throwing for it. He hit a 133 to leave double 20 for set darts which he claimed on double 10.
He continued his strangle hold on the tie with double eight and hit an 87 checkout to go one away from his showdown with Taylor.
He missed a 110 checkout for the match and was made to pay as Hedman made it 2-1. She nearly made him pay again but bust 126.
Manley made it five missed match darts but produced on the sixth on double 10 as Hedman was back on 126 again.
