Jonny Clayton will face Peter Wright in the final of the opening week of 2022 Premier League Darts shortly in Cardiff.
Clayton saw off James Wade reeling off fourth consecutive legs to delight the home crowd in attendance as he looks to begin the defence of his Premier League Darts title with an immediate night win as he faces the World Champion.
He began the tie with the impetus hitting a 180 and a 55 checkout to edge in front. But he missed five darts to break and Wade hit double 10 to level the match.
A third 180 saw Clayton en route to the lead at 2-1 with a 62 checkout but Wade broke with 81 on the bull for a 12-darter.
He consolidated after Clayton missed the chance for a break back. He stayed one behind and after Wade missed the chance to go one away, Clayton took out 48 for the break for 4-4.
Wade missed more opportunities to break back on double 20 and Clayton took out double 16 again to go one away at 5-4. This saw a shake of the head from Wade who knew he let an opportunity go.
He looked bemused again as Clayton stole the tie on double 12 to head into the final of the opening Premier League night.
Wright held his nerve to see off Gary Anderson in the second semi-final as he was sent all the way to a decider taking out 76 to see off his fellow Scot.
Anderson had the advantage early on taking out 81 on double 12 to break but Wright immediately levelled. Wright held with a 44 checkout to lead 2-1 and extended his lead from there landing double three with both struggling on the doubles.
Wright edged ever closer with a 25 checkout to make it 4-1 and went one away as Anderson missed two at double 19 and Wright hit double 10 to make it 5-2.
A 91 checkout saw Anderson close the gap to make it 5-4 as he looked to pressurise Wright. He pinned double 20 from there to send it all the way. But a 76 checkout saw Wright claim victory to avert the late comeback.
