Phil Taylor rules out Sky Sports commentary move after World Seniors swansong

Phil Taylor has ruled out stepping into the Sky Sports commentary booth after hanging up his darts for the second time in his career.

The 16-time world champion initially left the sport in 2018 after reaching the final of the World Darts Championship, but returned to the darts circuit in 2022 with the World Seniors Darts Tour, where he has yet to win a tournament.

Late last year, The Power confirmed that his illustrious career on the oche is over for good at the end of 2024. One of his final events is this weekend at the World Seniors Championship at the Circus Tavern. Given that he will have more time soon, Taylor, who turns 64 this year, was asked about his future plans and whether he will also do commentary work at Sky.

However, the darts legend says he has no plans to take up commentary, preferring to focus on his role as World Seniors ambassador. “I won’t be working with Sky, I don’t think,” he told the Weekly Dartscast. “I will be working with the Seniors, that’s my plan for next year, be like their ambassador.”

Taylor is also being linked to an appearance on I'm A Celebrity, a eality show that airs on ITV. This involves putting a group of celebrities in an environment with extreme conditions and few comforts.

'The Power' doesn't rule out participating in that. "We’ll see happens, I’m not holding my breath. We’ll see what happens and what the offer is or whatever.

“It’s a plus and a minus with I’m A Celebrity. You’re life’s dragged through everything. Whether it’s worth it, I don’t know. We’ll sit down [and talk about it] if I get invited. It’s all ifs and buts at the moment.”

On Friday night, Taylor begins his first-ever World Seniors Darts Championship. He will play German competitor Manfred Bilderl in the first round.
