Kevin Painter on the stage where Phil Taylor denied him of potentially his greatest career triumph back in 2004 has gained revenge by dumping out 'The Power' with ease to reach the semi-finals of the
World Seniors Darts Championship.
Painter will now face Robert Thornton tomorrow afternoon and will likely now become favourite to become champion after shutting down the 16-time World Champion.
It was a dominant display which saw him lose only three legs and ends a run of 31 straight defeats.
Painter sealed the opening leg of the tie hitting double eight for a hold. Taylor squared it up with Painter nowhere near a break.
A 56 checkout saw Painter hold to go 2-1 up and he took the first set with a 106 checkout to break. An 82 checkout using 25, Bull en route saw him two legs up in the second set.
A 180 was pinned by Painter as he continue his dominance, he missed the second double 20 for a 100 checkout but returned with 124 missed by Taylor.
‘The Artist’ cleaned up double 10 to go one away from the win. He carried on when play resumed with his dominance hitting double 12 to go 1-0 up.
Taylor hit a 180 and was well ahead but fluffed his chance to hold and Painter hit double 18 to go one away from victory. Taylor couldn’t get a shot at 108 but Painter missed two match darts.
‘The Power’ broke throw though to go 2-1 down and was throwing to force a decider.
He hit a 119 checkout to send it all the way. Painter surged ahead though on his throw and set up 32 with a 78 before pinning it to claim victory.
