Robert Thornton is into the semi-finals at the 2022
World Seniors Darts Championship and is yet to drop a set this tournament at the Circus Tavern.
Thornton won in straight sets against Dave Prins with a 124 checkout to seal it again showing glimmers at times of some of his best form.
Next up will either be Phil Taylor or Kevin Painter in the semi-finals tomorrow afternoon in a battle of the favourites no matter who comes through.
Thornton spurned an early opportunity to break but returned after Prins went into double six on double 10 allowing only two darts to hold and ‘The Thorn’ returned to go 1-0 up.
Prins couldn’t pounce on the chance to break back and Thornton went 2-0 up on double six. He hit a 180 and 140 and in the best leg of the match so far but couldn’t be clinical missing three at double 18 and Prins held on double 16.
But a 76 checkout saw Thornton seal it and go 1-0 up. He had a spring in his step and pinned double 10 to go 1-0 up in the second set.
His average went towards 85 as he took a break of throw to go one away from a two sets lead defying a late 180 from Prins. It was a lead he took as he went one away from the semi-finals.
Thornton drew the next set level with a 118 checkout to hold. A 56 checkout saw Thornton break and go one away.
Prins though kept it interesting with a 110 checkout. A 124 checkout though finished the job for Thornton as he moves through.
