It's quarter-final time at the 2025 World Seniors Darts Championship this Saturday afternoon at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet! Who can keep their hopes of taking the most prestigious title in the 45+ scene alive?
It's set to be a long day for whoever can prevail as later tonight are the semi-finals and the final itself, meaning three long format wins are required for the World Seniors Darts Championship hopefuls.
A repeat of 1996, when Beaton famously won his BDO World Championship title at the Lakeside by taking a 6-3 victory over Richie Burnett in the final.
Both players battled through the opening round with comeback wins, before putting in more accomplished and settled performances in round 2, making this potentially the most intriguing tie of the entire round.
Leonard Gates has been somewhere near his form of 2023 on the Seniors Tour at this tournament. Two years ago the American dominated all comers, winning three of the four major titles, with only the World Championship proving illusive.
In Graham Usher though, Gates faces a very dangerous opponent. Fresh off the PDC Pro Tour, Usher impressively dispatched the much-fancied Neil Duff in the last 16, so will be looking to add another big name casualty to his list.
It's fair to say that if this match had been proposed pre-tournament, defending world Seniors champion John Henderson would have been the big favourite. Derek Coulson though, has been the surprise package of this event, taking impressive wins over Mervyn King and Tony O'Shea to reach the quarter-finals.
Henderson for his part, survived a scare last night to end the career of Chris Mason and is now just three matches away from following in his fellow Scot Robert Thornton's footsteps and defending his World Championship crown.
Speaking of Thornton, the two-time World Seniors Darts Championship winner continues his quest for a third title against compatriot Ross Montgomery in the quarter-finals.
Montgomery came through a five set spectacle against the legendary John Part in the last 16, proving his fighting qualities. Thornton meanwhile, had a rather more comfortable time of things, defeating Darryl Fitton 3-1.
