The 2018 edition was definitely worth a watch. Only three of the top 11 seeds made it to the quarter-finals. Michael van Gerwen was dumped out by Brendan Dolan, and the final pitted Mensur Suljovic against Simon Whitlock. The Austrian defeated the Australian to become the inaugural Danish Darts Open champion. Who will take the title this year? It won't be van Gerwen, who doesn't enter.
Starting things off is someone who was in a stage final as recently as last weekend. William O'Connor put in some sterling performances to steer the Republic of Ireland to the World Cup of Darts finals. He's in hot form right now. A bid to make it matter in Europe begins against Luke Woodhouse. That's followed by Nathan Aspinall - who, of course, has already turned vast potential into a big stage success - taking on Mick Todd, who has never won a European Tour match.
Play starts at 12:00 BST - you can keep up with live updates right here.
Kyle Anderson locks horns with Mike de Decker in the third match. Per Laursen, the Danish veteran, flies the flag for his nation in a first round meeting with debutant Reece Robinson. Finland is well represented in this event. One of two Fins, Teuvo Haverinen, plays in-form New Zealander Cody Harris.
Jose de Sousa and Jose Antonio Justicia Perales are the Iberian representation in Europe's far north. They play against the English duo of Scott Taylor and Ryan Joyce respectively.
The final game of the session is an oddity. Two Poles have entered the Danish Darts Open and, somehow, they're up against each other. The Clash of the Krzysztofs sees Messrs Kciuk and Ratajski go head-to-head. It makes sure that there'll be a Pole playing Dave Chisnall in round two. Ratajski is the favourite, but there's no discounting the dangerous Kciuk.
