Gerwyn Price’s first European Tour title has handed a major boost to his PDC Grand Slam of Darts hopes.
A win over Simon Whitlock in the International Darts Open final ended a barren spell for the Welshman. It also meant that Price confirmed a spot at the European Championships in Dortmund. The benefits to his PDC season go further than that, however. The Iceman is now likely to appear at the 2018 Grand Slam of Darts.
24 of the 32 competitors in Wolverhampton are provided by the PDC. This roster is made up of winners and runners-up from the major tournaments, plus winners in European Tour, Players Championship and UK Open Qualifier events.
Price is in line to join fellow European Tour winners Ian White and Max Hopp at the Grand Slam. Fellow continental champions Michael van Gerwen, Mensur Suljovic and Jonny Clayton have already qualified by different means.
The other players with confirmed spots are Rob Cross, Gary Anderson, Dimitri van den Bergh, Raymond van Barneveld, Peter Wright, Michael Smith and Josh Payne.Gerwyn Price | Grand Slam of Darts 2018 | PDC
