Mikuru Suzuki harbouring dream of BDO Grand Slam of Darts pick

Mikuru Suzuki is hopeful that the BDO will select her for the upcoming Grand Slam of Darts.

Eight BDO representatives will appear at the event in Wolverhampton. The Grand Slam of Darts has featured female players before. Anastasia Dobromyslova and Francis Hoenselaar, the 2008 and 2009 world champions, appeared at the 2009 edition. Suzuki, who beat Lorraine Winstanley to take the Lakeside title, would like to be involved in November.

"I hope that I will play in the Grand Slam," she said to Live Darts.

With the help of her translator, Suzuki added: "It is the biggest tournament for [me], if [I] will get selected, so [I] am very exited, if [I] get invited."

Suzuki also added that she would be keen to try Q-School in January, following on from a clutch of women's stars who attempted it at the start of 2019.

World Trophy education

The world champion was recently involved in the BDO World Trophy in Blackburn. The 37-year-old averaged 88.17 - the highest average of the first round - to see off reigning champion Fallon Sherrock. She couldn't repeat the trick in the quarter-finals, with Aileen de Graaf running out a 4-2 winner.

"This was [my] first World Trophy appearance, so it was a good learning experience for [me]," Suzuki explained.

"[I] will prepare better for next time."

There's a chance that Suzuki is the last ever women's winner at the Lakeside. The World Championship moves to the O2 in London from next January. The Japanese star summed up her feelings on the move succinctly.

"Very excited!" was her summary.
