Thornton set to challenge for MAD European Championship against Richardson

Robert Thornton is the next challenger to James Richardson for the European Championship title belt in MAD (Modern Amateur Darts).

Employing a structure in the shape of a pyramid, MAD sees the regional, national and continental levels with players able to challenge those ahead of them to reach the top of the pyramid.

Richardson has been the holder of the European Belt since December, after beating John O'Shea 9-5 in the first defence of the title.

To challenge Richardson, a player had to bid a minimum of £1,500. The current title holder may then choose a player from all bids and that was Thornton.

The match will be played in the Scottish city of Irvine on Friday 17 September.

Also on that night, home hero Darren Beveridge will defend his Bravehearts title, while the following night, Gary Stone will defend his Scottish title in Alloa.
