Thomas Banks has crowned himself the winner of the latest week on the the MODUS Super Series last weekend. The 17-year-old darter proved too strong for Conor Heneghan in the final of the eighth week of play.
A new competition is played each week in the MODUS Super Series. The best six players from the first five days of play met Saturday divided into two groups during the final day of the eighth week of play. In the thirteenth week of play, the 12 weekly winners will take on each other.
The top six players from Monday through Friday's group matches were allowed to compete in Saturday's final day, which consisted of two groups. In Group A, Heneghan managed to win both of his matches against Moreno Blom (4-0) and Scott Mitchell (4-2), while Mitchell finished second after a 4-2 win over Blom.
Banks remained unbeaten in Group B after victories over Tom Lonsdale (4-0) and Mike van Duivenbode (4-2). Because Van Duivenbode did win 4-0 over Lonsdale, the Dutchman did advance to the semifinals.
In the first semifinal, Heneghan eliminated Van Duivenbode (4-3). Banks then became the second finalist by defeating Mitchell 4-3. So in the final, Heneghan and Banks faced each other. Banks then managed to claim the title and the top prize of 5,000 pounds by defeating Heneghan 4-2.
Tom Sykes, Jim Long, Richard Rowlands, Jimmy van Schie, Neil Duff, Paul Hogan and Adam Paxton were the first seven weekly winners, which means we will see those men back later during finals week in late August.
