"I might steal the walk-on but I definitely won't get the beard or the long hair!" - Mason Whitlock hopes to follow in father Simon's footsteps

Will we soon have a father-son combination on the PDC Pro Tour? If Mason Whitlock, son of former World Darts Championship finalist Simon Whitlock, gets his way, we certainly will.

Despite having a superstar darter as a father, it wasn't until relatively recently that Mason Whitlock started playing himself. "I started taking an interest in darts through lockdown and was quite good, so I started doing the Development Tour and all those sorts of youth tours and locals and yeah, now we're here," he explains to Modus.

The young lad does not lack self-confidence. "I want to qualify for the World Youth Championship at the end of the year and then hopefully get my tour card in the January," he says of his goals.

Father Simon has been running in the PDC for many years, but what is Mason's best memory of his father's career? "That would have to be the 2010 World Championship final against Phil Taylor. That was incredible and very inspirational. That 170 he hit against Phil in a world final was ridiculous, especially at that time."

His father, of course, is an iconic figure in the dart world, with his long beard, ponytail and crowd pleasing walk-on music. "I might steal the walk-on but I definitely won't get the beard or the long hair!" he laughs.
