James Wade advanced to the second round of the
International Darts Open on Friday night at the expense of Mike de Decker. 'The Machine' was 6-3 too strong for the Belgian.
The Englishman posted an average of 96.85, but didn't sound completely satisfied afterwards. ''It didn't feel quite that good. It was a scrap from start to finish. I felt a little bit uncomfortable, but I'm sure he did as well. It's a bonus I won.''
The interviewer noticed that Wade was limping on stage. The 11-time major-winner was asked about the cause, and came up with a remarkable answer. ''The problem was I went out this morning for a 15 mile run and i tripped over on the 10th mark, no I'm lying.... The local hotel to here, they've got a step like that in the bathroom with a plinth going through... I lost, it won and me being me, I've done it properly rather than just a little bit! I'm many things but not heroic (laughs)."
Wade will take on Ricardo Pietreczko in the second round of the International Darts Open on Saturday night. ''I'm sure he wil play well you know. If I do my thing I win, if I dont, I don't."
