Richie Howson has won the "Legends Week" in the
Modus Super Series. The 59-year-old Englishman defeated
Steve Beaton 4-2 in the final.
The MODUS Super Series is a weekly tournament with 12 players competing from Monday through Friday for a spot in the final group, which takes place on Saturday night. The player who finishes first after three sessions qualifies directly for the final night on Saturday night. On final night, players compete in a small group stage, followed by semifinals and a final to determine the weekly winner.
The competition begins again the following week, with twelve new players competing for the title. After twelve weeks of competition, all weekly winners compete in "Champions Week," which is played every thirteen weeks of play to determine who wins the series and one with the top prize of £20,000.
Steve Beaton was active on the PDC Pro Tour until late last year
Final night
On the final night, three players each competed against each other in two groups. The first two players of those group qualified for the semifinals. In Group A it was quite exciting, as Steve Beaton, Richie Burnett and Devon Petersen each won one match. Based on leg difference, it was eventually Beaton and Petersen who qualified for the semifinals.
In the other group, Richie Howson won against both Darryl Fitton and Neil Duff. In addition to Howson, Duff was also allowed to advance to the semifinals after a 4-1 win against Fitton.
Beaton, a Tour Card holder with the PDC until late last year, was not underwhelmed by Neil Duff in the first semifinal. Still, the 60-year-old Englishman eventually drew the longest match 4-3. In the other semifinal, Howson was 4-2 too strong for Petersen.
In the final, somewhat surprisingly, it was Howson, the reigning Champion of Champions winner in the seniors, who won 4-2 to crown himself the weekly winner in the MODUS Super Series.
