Van Barneveld has racked up 29
PDC titles during his career including multiple world titles, but will bow out after an illustrious career.
The Dutchman won the Lakeside title in 1998, 1999, 2003 and 2005 before joining the PDC circuit in 2006 where he made an immediate impact, winning the UK Open title in 2006 before claiming glory on his PDC World Championship debut, defeating Phil Taylor 7-6 in the classic final which ended with a sudden-death leg.
The five-time world champion also became the first player to achieve a nine-dart finish in both the Premier League, in 2006, and PDC World Championship, in 2009, and has helped to inspire the growth of darts in the Netherlands during a superb career.
This means 2019, like when his former rival Phil Taylor retired, will be his last year in certain major tournaments. Van Barneveld released his own statement below with the caption all good things come to an end.
With both Taylor and now him retiring, it really is seen as the end of an era.
