Brown’s win went all the way to the last leg with a brilliant 153 along the way out of nowhere as he averaged 90. This was the turning point as he went 4-3 up to seize the initiative. From there despite missing a match dart in the requisite leg, he saw off The Spider to gain a good start.
Clayton thumped Joe Murnan in a game where despite a late comeback from Murnan, he was just too good. It could have even been a whitewash victory but it was clawed back to 4-2. Despite that it was too little too late as the Welshman claimed an important victory and leg difference in a tough group that includes Michael van Gerwen.
