Max Hopp and Martin Schindler were facing off against the duo of Janos Vegso and Pal Szekely and ended up claiming a 5-1 win to thrill the home crowd.
Vegso claimed the first leg but it was one way traffic from there with Germany dominantly responding to go 1-1 and then they broke the throw. Schindler who was seen as the weak link in the side proved his worth with a 137 checkout to move them 3-1 ahead.
He broke throw again with a 61 checkout to go 4-1 up; from there they eased through to the next round.
Gary Anderson and Peter Wright had question marks about them; due to Anderson being in limited action and Wright not being in consistent form but they answered that by smashing Denmark 5-0 in the first whitewash of the tournament.
They took the advantage early against the Denmark duo of Per Laursen and Niels Heinsøe claiming the break for a 2-0 lead and Wright played well to then checkout 100 to make it 3-0.
He was doing the finishing in the team and they moved to the brink with 'Snakebite' landing tops; they then completed the job to storm through to a tie with Sweden.
